Problem Solving Methodology Vs. Positive Success

Since the 1930s, organizations have used a deficit-based approach to problem solving.  It begins with seeking out the problem, the weak link in the system.  Then, typically there is a diagnosis and alternative solutions are recommended.

Our success approach is challenging this approach by embracing organizations' challenges in a positive light.  This approach is based on the assumption that an organization is a mystery to embrace as a human center of infinite imagination, infinite capacity, and potential.  The following diagram illustrates the differences between the two approaches:

The Problem Solving Approach:
Positive Success Approach:

  1. Looking to see what's missing, what's wrong, what's the problem, and what's not working
  2. Analyze the causes, the reasons
  3. Identify possible solutions
  4. Create a correction plan for action

This view is based on a business that needs to be fixed and eliminate weaknesses in order for it to succeed

  1. Discovery - What gives life to your business?
  2. Dream - What might be? Envisioning success
  3. Design - Constructing what could be
  4. Create - Being in action

This view is based on a business that is seeking to embrace and further grow its greatness.

The Positive Core of Your Business

The positive core strengths of a business are the greatest resource available to create transformation.  Studies show that human systems grow in the direction of their persistent focus.

Transformation propensity is strongest and most sustainable when the future is constructed upon the positive core strengths of the organization.  Linking the energy of this core directly to a possible future creates and mobilizes topics never before thought possible.

  1. When we discover our gifts, talents, what brings us success, we are invoking positive emotions such as joy, excitement, interest, fulfilled, happy.  These emotions automatically drive us to action with more focus, innovation, exploratory, and with high level of connectedness to others. We instantly operate in the "zone." Leaders report miraculous performance being in the zone.
  2. By focusing on our greatness and positive emotions we undermine the negative emotions and problems so they become insignificant. We create what we focus on.  When we focus on what's missing and what's wrong that is what we tend to grow.
  3. Over time, a constant focus on our greatness increases our well being, and builds resilience to obstacles.

"There are only two ways to live your life.  One is as though nothing is a miracle.   The other is as though everything is a miracle."

      -Albert Einstein
